Message from Mr Foster
Dear All
This has been ‘Class Week’ and all of our pupils have been working on the theme: ‘The Big Freeze’. The aim of this week has been to develop problem solving and investigational abilities which are essential transferrable skills to all areas of learning. Child initiated learning and building team roles have also been key things. I hope that your child enjoyed this week’s different style of learning. Congratulations to our OSP dancers who were brilliant in the Dynamic Dance 2013 show at the Peepul Centre on Saturday evening. It was a pleasure to watch and be with them. Have a good weekend.
Mr Foster (Headteacher)
Thought for the Week
“Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.”
Aristotle
Football
Congratulations to our Year 4/5 football team who beat Alderman Richard Hallam 9-3 on Wednesday (27/11/13). This was a remarkable victory against a very strong school. They have topped the Billing Cup West Area Group and progress to the knock out stages after Christmas.
Warning over a lack of practical science lessons
A lack of practical lessons in schools in England means many teenagers are struggling with science, Ofsted warns. The report, based on visits to 180 schools – 89 secondaries and 91 primaries – in England, found most science teachers wanted to do experiments in class to spark pupils’ interest, but thought this was difficult to do in practice. Time was the most pressing concern. As a result, opportunities for investigative scientific enquiry were limited. This won’t happen at Abbey – don’t worry!
